The title of this show provided the framework for what was three-week burst of drawing, but it also shaped the body of work. When Designs For an Unwritten Opera is unveiled this Saturday, patrons will find all manner of heroes, strange creatures, and choruses in search of a stage. Themes did emerge at the drawing table – an obscure Mexican emperor, a magical forest, and for some reason, an arctic frontier.
I have completed 30 ink-and-goauche drawings that I am quite satisfied with. But it’s Thursday night, and it’s time to clean up the table and get the framing done.
