Children’s book by post

I recently made a comment to my friend Andreas that we might collaborate on a children’s book. A few days later, notecards started arriving in my mailbox with a story on the top half and a blank for me to fill in on the bottom half. I am enjoying this challenge!

Telephone Line

I drew these 31 bird groups for Pittsburgh’s Fun-A-Day project. The idea behind Fun-A-Day is for artists to do something creative (not work-related) every day for a month.

The self-imposed rules of my project, “Telephone Line” were that the wire had to run the entire length on the month, the background could not touch the side edges, the wire could only be used by city birds (sparrows and starlings), the birds could be in peril but not harmed, and the backgrounds should show a lot of variety. I started out with buildings I liked, but soon jokes and surrealism made its way into the project.

You can view the complete “Telephone Line” on Instagram (@swizzlestudio) or at the bottom of this post.

“Telephone Line” ran the length of the gallery at Fun-A-Day Pittsburgh’s show.

2018 Holiday card design

This year’s card was inspired by a walk in nearby Earlscourt Park after a November snowfall.
