Towel Day (May 25) celebrates the life of author Douglas Adams. Funny guy, good human being. This sketch depicts the arrival of the Vogon Constructor Fleet and one of my favourite sentences from The Hitchhiker’s Guide The Galaxy.
Luckystar Studio‘s Gene Evans reminded me that DC Comics has declared July 23 Batman Day. It’s been 75 years since the Caped Crusader first appeared in Detective Comics. I’m not much of a comic book guy, but Batman’s cultural DNA, a crazy mix of camp and fascism, has always appealed to me. Happy birthday, you Batusi-dancing, neck-wrenching orphan!
Painting the Monkey Modern show was pretty inspiring. So much so that I’ve returned to the drawing board to work on a couple more of my favourite simians. Expect some fresh studies in addition to the large portraits at next Saturday’s show opening.
